Fluttering on wings of kaleidoscopic colour, the Richmond birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera richmondia) is Australia’s largest subtropical butterfly. Once abundant from Maryborough, Queensland, south to Grafton in New South Wales, this species faced massive declines following widespread clearing of its habitat, particularly its favoured caterpillar food plants – the lowland Richmond birdwing vine (Pararistolochia praevenosa) and the mountain aristolochia (Pararistolochia laheyana). Wildlife Queensland’s Richmond Birdwing Conservation Network aims to be the wind beneath this butterfly’s wings through establishing vine refuges and creating awareness in the broader community.
This elegant insect is printed on premium fine-art paper with a gently textured surface. The handmade frame by specialist picture framers is created from high-quality wood milled with simple clean lines and presented with a satin finish. Delivered ready to hang to brighten your room.
