With its big eyes, fluffy ears and long tail, Australia’s largest glider species is the marsupial ‘teddy’ of the treetops. Like the koala, the greater glider (Petauroides volans) is a gum-tree specialist that both dens in and dines on eucalypts. Despite its size, the endangered greater glider is nocturnal and rarely seen, so its plight is largely ignored by the public. Throughout much of its range down Queensland’s populated south-eastern coastline, this glider is forced to coexist with humans, and development or destruction of its habitat has left it with nowhere else to go. Wildlife Queenland’s Queensland Glider Network urgently needs your help to find and protect greater gliders before it is too late.
